Technical Information

We’re pleased that you’re interested enough to check out these details about the system. Included herein is information that describes the hosting facility that we use, and their servers, security measures, and backup and storage policy. Also included is a breakdown of our fee structure which is essentially month-to-month. Of course, these fees are subject to change at any time, without prior notice.

Hosting Facilities

Some time ago, to alleviate concerns about security, as well as about the level of support that we were getting from our previous hosting facility, we changed our hosting facility. See the attached file, Hosting_Facilities.pdf for detailed information.

The web server is hosted and maintained by Rackspace Managed Hosting, a full service, managed hosting provider in Austin, TX. Rackspace guarantees 100% uptime! See the attached files, About_Rackspace.pdf and Rackspace_Managed_Hosting.pdf or visit their web site at www.rackspace.com for additional information. Rackspace’s server systems are custom designed to meet the customer’s requirements. They are readily expandable and can handle individual storage requirements up to 50 terabytes. Rackspace’s security and backup products are non-compromising.

With Rackspace as a partner, we have the utmost flexibility in designing a hosting plan to meet your exact requirements.

The Web Servers

Under normal circumstances, the web sites reside on a dedicated, Online-Projects.Net server that is shared with our other clients. However, you may also have your own dedicated server for storing documents and information files solely for your company. Additionally, if required, you may have one or more servers dedicated to handling the documentation files of individual projects.

Security

Rackspace Managed Hosting protects you with the industry’s most potent security tools and techniques. Rackspace’s enterprise-class, fully managed security products provide a strong, multi-layered defense for today’s ever changing network environments. All levels of security protection, up to and including mission critical applications, are available. Available systems and products include:

  • Cisco PIX Managed Firewalls which provide robust, enterprise-class, integrated network security services
  • PrevenTier™, a unique, proactive distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) mitigation tool created by Rackspace
  • Cisco Intrusion Detection System (IDS) which protects against unauthorized, malicious activity traversing the network, such as attacks by hackers.
  • Verisign SSL Certificates – A Verisign Secure Server ID (also known as a certificate) gives your users verifiable assurance that your site is secure. SSL is available with two levels of encryption: 40-bit SSL Secure Server IDs and 128-bit SSL Secure Server IDs.
  • Third-party Security Audits – TrustWave security audits are used to detect and correct security vulnerabilities.
  • For additional information on Rackspace’s comprehensive suite of security technologies, see the attached file Rackspace_Security.pdf

Within the web site application itself we implement a multi-level system of security and user access, including the use of individual usernames, passwords, and permission levels. Document access is controlled through the use of general documentation lock-out procedures, individual document protection, and a three-level document classification system that can distinguish between non-classified, classified, and top secret documents.

    Backup and Storage

Backup procedures can be customized to suit, whereas storage is essentially unlimited. Typically, we will provide full backup of the database and critical files weekly, as well as a daily incremental backup.
